Why did the marauders hate snape
So, James and Sirius stopped being bullies eventually. Snape never did. He harassed students because of some high school crush that ruined his life James Lily chose James over Severus because James realised he was not doing the right things and Snape never did. He seemed to feel he didn't have to change and he somehow deserved Lily anyway and when she made her own choice to date James, he got butt hurt and joined Voldemort I like James, I'm not going to deny that I'm slightly biased towards him.
I get that. But we're talking about a fictional character with a redemption arc, who grew as a person and learnt from his mistakes. Therefore, I can forgive him. Snape, however, continued doing terrible things well into his adult life and never really learnt from his mistakes unless they made life difficult for him.
I get that he is a fictional character and that makes it easier for some people to forgive him but that doesn't affect me at all. It's what he stands for that makes me mad. People forgiving men for being creepy, obsessive predators like Snape is not something I want to be associated with. Okay, so maybe James' pursuit of Lily could be considered one of these examples but I am NOT excusing his actions and most people who like James recognise he made mistakes.
One of the reasons I don't like Snape is that actually the people that do like him. Many Snape supporters excuse what he did because he did it for 'love' and that he was a 'victim' but I just don't think there is any excuse for being the way Snape was and then trying to defend this until you die.
From what we know of James, he definitely had a huge ego. He absolutely loved himself, and seemed to find no fault in any of his actions. Sure, that's really nice and self-love is great, but there's a difference between confidence and arrogance and it's a line James crossed, frankly, far too many times.
But while James was maybe staring in a mirror too much or throwing out one too many flirtatious remarks with confidence they'd land, Snape was involving himself in the Dark Arts. He even wrote off his friend Mulciber using such spells on a fellow classmate as "just a laugh", something that absolutely horrified Lily.
Ultimately, James Potter grew up to join the Order of the Phoenix. This was a secret organization founded by Albus Dumbledore that was dedicated to stopping Lord Voldemort and saving lives. The people in the Order were willing to risk their own lives on a day to day basis, and Dumbledore only asked people to join that he truly trusted. If James had been an inherently bad or selfish person, he simply wouldn't have been invited to join such a cause. Dumbledore truly thought he was worthy of it despite any past transgressions.
Meanwhile, Snape grew up to join the Death Eaters. Yes, he later switched sides. Yes, he regretted his decision — but only because the woman he was obsessed with died because of his own actions. He willingly accepted the Dark Mark on his forearm. He literally joined a genocidal cause. James Potter was a scoundrel with an ego that severely needed deflating, but Severus Snape was actually rotten to the core.
Is one set of actions and personality traits far more forgivable than the other? Almost definitely. It happens. She's a freelance writer who contributes to various Valnet sites and, when not working or travelling, spends most of her time watching horror movies, wasting an unreasonable amount of hours on the PS4 despite being a Nintendo girl at heart , and trying to force her cat to love her.
James most likely didn't know any better, from probably being spoiled rotten by his parents, like Dudley Dursley, so like Dudley, he became a bullied that was always seen as an innocent angel. Which made Snape hate that, and to me, Snape looked as though he was being abused at home, he looked rather unhealthily skinny, and depressed VERY depressed but that may have been an act he put on, since he was a Slytherin mind you they are said to be very cunningly smart , people most likely did or did not take pity on him for his depressed child act.
